Collection

The Transylvanian Museum houses more than 18,000 exhibits. The collection’s profile resembles that of an institution addressing cultural and art history and it includes artefacts of the Transylvanian culture from the past six centuries. Its collection shows important areas of the historic way of life in Transylvania.

As a state museum for Transylvania, the Transylvanian Museum also exhibits smaller collections of historic books, musical instruments and official documents and a smaller collection surrounding the region’s nature and environment. In addition to animal preparations, the museum showcases a mineral collection that promotes understanding of Transylvania’s geology. Due to the spatial limitations of the museum’s permanent exhibition, this area is rather exemplary in nature. However, the collections will be made available for research purposes on request.
